alike能否用very修饰

前面有人提问：alike能否用very修饰？
老师说，alike不可以用very修饰，但我在书看到如此一个句子：
Tom and his friend are very alike.

国内出版的有的惯使用方法词典仍沿用一些过时的使用方法，没与时俱进。网友上面的这个问题就是比较典型的一个例子。譬如《薄冰英语惯使用方法词典》在alike词条就觉得：
alike意为“相像”，是表语形容词，前面不可用very修饰，应说much alike或very much alike，用very much比much常见。比如：
The father and the son are alike, both being early risers.父子两个非常相像，都爱早起。
Mother and daughter are very much alike in their fear of snakes.母女两人在怕蛇方面是完全相同。
但事实上，这一看法已经非常过时了，很多介绍英语使用方法的原版辞书早就修正了这一看法，譬如Michael Swan的《英语使用方法指南》在其第1版中就指出：有人觉得very alike这种说法是错误的，必须要说very much。其实，very alike在受过教育的人用的语言里也是容易见到的。
事实上，very alike的使用方法不只在阅读中随处可见，而且早已被各类英语辞典和语法著作所网站收录：
She and her sister arevery alike.
We lookedvery alike.
The children all lookvery alike.
Bill and Tom arevery alike.
The two boys arevery alike.
The correspondences are interesting; the two sets of information arevery alike.
